Centred on Enterprise Demand Objects and operating through Enterprise Core Capability-aligned Portfolios, EPOS connects Enterprise Definition, Enterprise Portfolio Planning, Portfolio Delivery Planning, Portfolio Delivery Execution and Enterprise Portfolio Interpretation through one continual operating environment, enabling organisations to continually understand, plan and evolve the enterprise.

Operating Components

Within the wider architecture, EPOS operates through four connected Enterprise Portfolio Capabilities centred on the same enduring Enterprise Demand Objects. Together, the capabilities, Core Artefacts and Decision Interaction connect enterprise intent, planning, delivery, interpretation and response through one continual operating environment.

Enterprise Demand Objects

Enterprise Demand Objects sit at the centre of EPOS and provide the enduring operating objects through which Enterprise Evolution is continually planned, delivered and interpreted.

They remain persistent as Delivery Responses emerge, evolve and conclude, maintaining continuity between Enterprise Definition, enterprise planning, delivery activity and the continual evolution of Enterprise Core Capabilities.

Enterprise Portfolio Planning

Enterprise Portfolio Planning (EPP) continually interprets Enterprise Definition and Enterprise Demand Objects to guide Portfolio Formation and Portfolio Evolution.

Its principal Core Artefact, the Enterprise Portfolio Business Plan (EPBP), establishes the intended enterprise portfolio position and provides the forward enterprise perspective through which demand is structured, sequenced, balanced and governed.

Portfolio Delivery Planning

Portfolio Delivery Planning (PDP) matures Enterprise Demand Objects toward execution readiness, connecting enduring enterprise demand with the Delivery Responses required to realise it.

The Portfolio Delivery Plan (PDP) establishes the planned delivery perspective, maintaining connection between Enterprise Demand Objects and the programmes, projects and other Delivery Responses through which enterprise change is executed.

Portfolio Delivery Execution

Portfolio Delivery Execution (PDE) represents the execution of Delivery Responses through the organisation's established delivery capabilities.

EPOS does not prescribe how delivery is performed. PDE connects delivery execution back to the enduring Enterprise Demand Objects and portfolio structures, enabling actual delivery progress and outcomes to remain visible within the wider enterprise operating environment.

Enterprise Portfolio Interpretation

Enterprise Portfolio Interpretation (EPI) continually interprets the current enterprise portfolio position through Enterprise Definition, Enterprise Demand Objects and information from planning and delivery.

The Portfolio Position Performance (PPP) provides the current interpreted portfolio perspective, enabling Enterprise Understanding to develop from the changing position of the enterprise.

Decision Interaction

Enterprise Understanding informs Decision Interaction, connecting the interpreted enterprise position with the leadership decisions and responses required to guide Enterprise Evolution.

Those responses continually inform Enterprise Portfolio Planning and Portfolio Delivery Planning, completing the operating loop and enabling EPOS to operate continuously as enterprise conditions change.

Together, EPP, PDP, PDE and EPI operate in parallel around the same Enterprise Demand Objects.
